Welcome to Vida. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Vida mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account, downloading, installing, or using the Vida app, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms, as well as our Privacy Policy. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Vida.
2. Description of Service
Vida is a community-led platform that connects people who need assistance with volunteers willing to help. The Service allows users to:
- Create an account using Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, or direct registration
- Create, edit, and manage "marks" (help requests) in categories including Cleanup, Errands, Food Donation, Repair, Education, and Other
- Flag locations or tasks that need assistance with photos, descriptions, and urgency levels
- Claim and fulfill help requests from other community members
- View nearby marks and events on an interactive map powered by MapTiler
- Filter marks by category, availability, completion status, and distance
- Search for marks by location and view them in list or map view
- Communicate with other users through temporary chat and comments
- Create, register for, and participate in community events with volunteer spot management
- Build a profile with statistics, reviews, and community engagement metrics
- Receive push notifications about nearby opportunities, responses, and updates
- Rate and review other users based on community interactions
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service. If you are between 13 and 18 years of age (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction), you may only use the Service under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet these eligibility requirements.
4. User Accounts and Registration
4.1 Account Creation
You can create a Vida account using:
- Google Sign-In (requires a Google account)
- Apple Sign-In (requires an Apple ID)
- Direct registration with email and password
4.2 View-Only Access
Limited features (viewing the map and nearby marks) may be accessible without logging in. However, full functionality including creating marks, claiming help requests, participating in events, and accessing chat features requires account creation and authentication.
4.3 Account Responsibilities
You agree to:
- Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration
- Maintain and promptly update your account information and profile
- Maintain the security of your account credentials
- Not share your account with others or allow others to access your account
- Accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
- Comply with the terms of service of third-party authentication providers (Google, Apple)
4.4 Account Security
If you use third-party authentication (Google or Apple), you are also responsible for maintaining the security of those accounts. We are not responsible for any losses or damages arising from your failure to maintain account security.
5. User Conduct and Responsibilities
5.1 General Conduct
When using the Service, you agree to:
- Use the Service in a respectful, courteous, and lawful manner
- Provide accurate information in all help requests and responses
- Fulfill commitments you make to assist others
- Respect the privacy and personal information of other users
- Report any inappropriate content or behavior
5.2 Prohibited Activities
You agree NOT to:
- Post false, misleading, or fraudulent marks (help requests)
- Claim marks you do not intend to fulfill
- Create duplicate or spam marks
- Use the Service for any commercial purposes without our prior written consent
- Harass, threaten, impersonate, or intimidate other users through chat, comments, or reviews
- Share inappropriate, offensive, or illegal content in marks, events, chat, or comments
- Post content without obtaining permission from all individuals depicted or involved
- Solicit money, donations, or personal information beyond what is necessary for community assistance
- Spam or flood the Service with repetitive marks, comments, or messages
- Manipulate your profile statistics, reviews, or ratings
- Leave false or malicious reviews for other users
- Attempt to interfere with or disrupt the Service's operation, including map functionality or real-time updates
- Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access the Service or create marks
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app
- Circumvent any security features or access restrictions
- Violate any applicable laws or regulations
6. Safety and Personal Responsibility
6.1 User Safety
Important: Vida is a platform that connects community members, but we do not screen, vet, or perform background checks on users. You are solely responsible for your own safety and well-being when interacting with other users or fulfilling help requests.
6.2 Personal Responsibility
You acknowledge and agree that:
- You participate in community assistance activities at your own risk
- You are responsible for assessing the safety of any situation before engaging
- You should meet in public places when appropriate and take reasonable safety precautions
- You should trust your instincts and withdraw from any situation that feels unsafe
- Vida is not responsible for any injuries, damages, or losses arising from your interactions with other users
6.3 Emergency Situations
Vida is not designed for emergency situations. In case of emergencies, always contact local emergency services (999 in the UK, 911 in the US, or your local emergency number) immediately.
7. Content and Intellectual Property
7.1 Your Content
You retain ownership of any content you post on Vida (including marks, events, photos, comments, chat messages, and location data). By posting content, you grant Vida a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your content in connection with operating and improving the Service.
7.2 Content Requirements
When creating marks or posting content, you must:
- Obtain permission from all individuals depicted in photos or involved in the content
- Ensure descriptions meet minimum word count requirements and are accurate
- Select appropriate categories (Cleanup, Errands, Food Donation, Repair, Education, Other)
- Provide accurate location information and addresses
- Set realistic time estimates and urgency levels
7.3 Vida's Intellectual Property
The Vida app, including its design, features, graphics, code, map styling, and branding, is owned by Vida and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on the Service without our express written permission.
7.4 Content Moderation and Removal
We reserve the right to:
- Review and moderate all marks, events, and user-generated content
- Require approval for newly created marks before they appear to other users
- Remove any content that violates these Terms or is otherwise objectionable, without prior notice
- Notify you of content removal or approval status
- Use automated moderation systems (n8n workflows) to flag and review content
7.5 User Reviews and Ratings
Reviews and ratings you receive from other users:
- Become part of your public profile
- May be moderated or removed if they violate community standards
- Cannot be deleted by you but can be reported for review
- Contribute to your overall community standing and statistics
8. Maps and Location Services
8.1 Map Functionality
Vida uses MapTiler to provide interactive map features, including:
- Real-time display of your location on the map
- Viewing nearby marks and events with clustering
- Custom map styling and theming
- Converting coordinates to readable addresses
- Recenter button to return to your current location
8.2 Location Data Usage
By using the Service, you consent to our collection and use of precise location data for:
- Displaying your location on the map
- Showing marks and events within a specific radius (nearby filtering)
- Creating marks at your current location or a selected location
- Filtering marks based on geographic bounding boxes
- Storing geographic coordinates (latitude/longitude) with marks you create
8.3 Map Service Terms
Map functionality is provided by MapTiler, a third-party service. Your use of map features is subject to MapTiler's terms of service and privacy policy. We are not responsible for MapTiler's services or any issues arising from their use.
8.4 Disabling Location Services
You can disable location services through your device settings. However, this will significantly limit app functionality, including:
- Inability to view the map centered on your location
- Reduced ability to find nearby marks and events
- Inability to create marks with precise locations
9. Marks (Help Requests)
9.1 Creating Marks
When creating a mark, you must:
- Provide an accurate description meeting minimum word count requirements
- Select an appropriate category
- Set a realistic estimated duration
- Specify the correct number of helpers needed
- Choose an appropriate urgency level
- Provide accurate location information
9.2 Mark Approval Process
Newly created marks may undergo a moderation and approval process before becoming visible to other users. This process:
- May be automated using moderation workflows
- Helps prevent spam, fraud, and inappropriate content
- Typically completes within 24 hours
- Will notify you of approval or rejection status
9.3 Mark Ownership and Editing
You retain ownership of marks you create and can:
- Edit mark details, description, and urgency
- Update the completion status
- Delete marks you no longer need
- View who has claimed or volunteered for your marks
9.4 Claiming Marks
When you claim a mark, you agree to:
- Fulfill the help request in good faith
- Communicate with the mark creator if needed
- Update the status when the task is completed
- Be available for review and rating by the mark creator
9.5 Mark Visibility and Filtering
Marks are displayed based on:
- Geographic proximity to your location
- Category filters you apply
- Availability (open, claimed, completed)
- Your filter preferences (e.g., hiding completed marks)
10. Community Events
10.1 Event Creation
Users may create community events with:
- Event title, description, and location
- Date, time, and duration
- Number of volunteer spots needed
- Category classification
- Organizer contact information
10.2 Event Registration
When you register for an event, you agree to:
- Attend the event if you register
- Cancel your registration if you cannot attend
- Respect filled spot limits
- Follow event guidelines set by the organizer
10.3 Event Approval
User-created events may require approval before being published. Events that violate community standards or these Terms may be rejected or removed.
11. Communication Features
11.1 Temporary Chat
Vida may offer temporary chat features for users to communicate about marks and events:
- Chat messages may be automatically deleted after a period of inactivity
- Chat is intended for coordination of community assistance only
- You should not share sensitive personal information through chat
- Chat may be monitored for safety and moderation purposes
- Abuse of chat features may result in account suspension
11.2 Comments
You may post comments on marks and events. Comments must:
- Be respectful and relevant
- Not contain spam, advertisements, or inappropriate content
- Comply with community standards
11.3 Push Notifications
By enabling push notifications, you consent to receive alerts about:
- Nearby marks and events
- Responses to your marks
- Status updates on claimed marks
- Event reminders
- App updates and important notices
12. User Profiles and Reviews
12.1 Profile Information
Your profile may include:
- Name and profile picture
- Community statistics (marks created, marks completed, events attended)
- Reviews and ratings from other users
- Biography and other optional information
12.2 Reviews and Ratings
Users may leave reviews and ratings on your profile:
- Reviews should be honest and based on actual interactions
- False or malicious reviews violate these Terms
- Reviews may be moderated and removed if inappropriate
- You can report reviews that violate community standards
12.3 App Reviews
We may prompt you to rate and review the Vida app on the App Store or Google Play Store. This is optional and does not affect your use of the Service.
13. Community Standards and Moderation
We strive to maintain a positive and helpful community. We reserve the right to:
- Remove marks, events, comments, or other content that violate these Terms
- Suspend or terminate accounts for violations
- Investigate reports of misconduct or abuse
- Use automated moderation systems (n8n workflows) to flag problematic content
- Archive or delete old marks based on age or inactivity
- Cooperate with law enforcement when necessary
- Take action against users who receive consistent negative reviews or reports
14. Third-Party Services
14.1 Authentication Services
If you sign in using Google or Apple:
- You agree to comply with Google's and Apple's respective terms of service
- We are not responsible for issues with third-party authentication services
- You can revoke Vida's access through your Google or Apple account settings
14.2 Map Services
Map functionality is provided by MapTiler. Your use of maps is subject to MapTiler's terms and conditions. We are not responsible for map accuracy, availability, or performance.
14.3 Analytics
We use analytics services (Google Analytics, Mixpanel) to improve the app. These services have their own privacy policies and terms of use.
14.4 Backend Services
The app uses Supabase for database and backend services. While we take steps to ensure data security, we are not responsible for Supabase's service availability or security measures beyond our control.
15. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
10.1 Service "As Is"
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
15.2 No Guarantee of Results
Vida does not guarantee that:
- Marks will be fulfilled or claimed
- Volunteers will be available, reliable, or competent
- Users will act responsibly, safely, or honestly
- Reviews and ratings are accurate or fair
- Events will occur as planned
- The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
- Map data will be accurate or up-to-date
- Third-party services (Google, Apple, MapTiler, Supabase) will be available
15.3 Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, VIDA AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES RESULTING FROM:
- Your use or inability to use the Service
- Interactions with other users
- Any content posted on the Service
- Unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or data
16. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Vida and its affiliates, officers, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including legal fees) arising out of or related to:
- Your use of the Service
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any rights of another person or entity
- Any content you post on the Service
17. Account Termination and Data Deletion
17.1 Termination by Vida
We may terminate or suspend your account and access to the Service immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including:
- Violation of these Terms
- Fraudulent or abusive behavior
- Repeated negative reviews or community reports
- Failure to fulfill claimed marks
- Posting inappropriate content
17.2 Voluntary Account Deletion
You may delete your account at any time through the app settings. When you delete your account:
- Your profile, marks, comments, and chat history will be removed
- Your event registrations will be cancelled
- Some data may be retained for legal compliance or legitimate business purposes
- You can request complete data deletion by contacting support@vida-app.com
17.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination (by you or us), your right to use the Service will immediately cease. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, and limitations of liability.
18. Data Rights and GDPR Compliance
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, you have certain data protection rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
- Right of Access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you
- Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data
- Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data
- Right to Data Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format
- Right to Object: Object to processing of your data for certain purposes
- Right to Restriction: Request restriction of processing your data

19. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
Vida complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Users under 13 are not permitted to use the Service. If we discover that a user under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete that information immediately. If you are between 13 and 18, you may only use the Service with parental or guardian supervision.
20. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or via email. Your continued use of the Service after such modifications constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
21. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the London Court of International Arbitration, or in the courts of England and Wales.
22. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
23. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Vida regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements.
